How to write an NFC tag
It takes a few minutes and a phone: write the ReTag tag address once and you'll never have to touch it again.
1. What you need
A phone with NFC and an NTAG213, NTAG215 or NTAG216 tag: the most common ones in 3D-printed keyrings.
2. Install a free app
Download NFC Tools, available for Android and iPhone.
3. Write the address
- Copy the ReTag tag address from the dashboard. It looks like https://www.retag.me/t/…
- In NFC Tools open Write and choose Add a record.
- Select URL/URI and paste the address.
- Tap Write and hold your phone against the tag.
4. Test it
Hold a phone against the tag: the destination you chose should open.
5. Lock (optional)
"Lock tag" stops anyone from rewriting it, but it is irreversible. With ReTag you don't need to change the tag to change the destination: you edit it from the dashboard.
6. If it doesn't work
- Hold the phone still for 1-2 seconds over the center of the tag.
- Some iPhones only read tags with the screen unlocked.
- Metal near the tag can interfere with reading.
